Important Notice: Upgrade Before the 3G Network Shutdown.
Dear Valued Customer,
We're reaching out to inform you about an upcoming change that may impact your elevator kits, door intercoms and more. As part of Australia's telecommunications landscape, we want to ensure you're prepared for the impending shutdown of the 3G network.
The shutdown is occurring in stages across major carriers, with Vodafone having already switched off its network in December 2023, Telstra scheduled to end all 3G services on June 30, 2024, and Optus being the final provider to shut down its 3G services in September 2024.
What does this mean for your elevator kits and other devices? Once the 3G network is deactivated, any device relying on it will cease to function. This includes not only elevator kits but also a wide array of devices such as relay controllers, intercoms, gateways and telephones.
To avoid disruptions, we urge you to promptly check your elevator kits (or consult us if unsure) to determine if they will be affected by the shutdown. If so, you'll likely need to upgrade to a replacement that is compatible with the 4G or 5G networks to continue accessing essential services. This may involve something as straightforward as changing your SIM card to a nano one or acquiring a new device compatible with the advanced networks.
Why is the 3G network being shut down? Primarily, it's due to the declining usage of 3G technology. As modern devices increasingly rely on faster 4G and 5G networks for data, the relevance of 3G has diminished. By repurposing the radio frequency bands used for the 3G network, carriers can enhance and extend their 4G or 5G coverage, meeting the growing demand for data services.
Similar 3G shutdowns have taken place or been announced in other countries worldwide, underscoring a global shift towards advanced mobile technologies.
